Ever Thought of Adding A Driveway Doorbell For You Home?
A driveway doorbell is just like a front door doorbell, with the exception that the doorbell goes off automatically when vehicles are just entering the beginning of your driveway. The automatic Driveway Doorbell then gives you extra notice time for a visitor, delivery man, or possible salesman coming up to your house. Depending on how your driveway runs on your property you may even be able to look out and see who it is before they make it all the way up to your house or your front door. Sometimes it might be the postal service and you want to meet them because you know a package is coming you have to sign for. In other cases the visitor might be a salesman that you don’t want to answer the door for.
The best use of a driveway doorbell is to have advance notice of someone coming on your property whether by car or walking down your driveway. Driveway Doorbells are essentially driveway alert systems and are commercially available as easy to install driveway alert or alarm systems. The system is comprised of a driveway sensor to detect people, cars or trucks. Or a sensor can be purchased to just detect vehicles (Cars & Trucks).
A driveway motion sensor is used to detect people, cars, trucks, and sometimes some units, depending on how they are set-up and adjusted may detect large animals such as a deer and or dogs. The driveway motion detector is the most common sensor on the market because it covers the broadest range of moving objects and also happens to be the least expensive. SpecialtyAlarms.com and DrivewayAlarmProducts.com both have a good selection of these Driveway Motion Detecting Systems, including the Dakota DCMA-2500, Rodann TX/RX-2000A, the Optex Wireless 2000 RCTD-20U, The Reporter or Chamberlain Driveway Alarm and the Voice Alert System 6 Wireless Annunciator System.
There are 2 more types of driveway sensors that detect vehicles only. The first system uses a driveway air hose that stretches across the driveway. Many years ago gas-station used these systems to ring a bell when you pulled up to a gas pump. Nowadays you see these stretched across roads to count vehicle traffic. One commercially available unit is the Dakota DCRH-2500; which has a hose sensor your stretch across the driveway and a wireless signal transmitter that registers the change in hose pressure when a car drives over the hose. The wireless transmitter operates off of long life batteries and has a signal transmission range of 2000+ feet! The inside doorbell receiver plugs-into an AC outlet and has a 12vdc adapter cord included. Immediately below there is a product demonstration video for this Rubber Hose Driveway Alarm System, DCRH-2500.
The next system that detects vehicles only is a magnetic probe sensor that detects the moving metal in your car or truck. This system can be placed alongside the driveway and preferably it is buried out of sight. It comes with 50 feet of probe sensor cable that is wired to a transmitter that would be mounted within 50 feet of the probe sensor at about 4 feet high. The mounting height is needed to get you the maximum wireless signal transmission distance possible (either 2000+ feet or 2+/- miles) depending on the wireless unit selected. Dakota Alert makes the DCPA-2500 system probe and also the MURS MAPS Alert 2+ mile wireless driveway doorbell system.
In most all cases the doorbell part of the driveway doorbell is a wireless signal receiver inside the home or business. The receiver doorbell generally puts out a pre-programmed chime or tone when the driveway sensor is activated. Many receivers also have additional outputs that can activate bells, buzzers, pagers, lights, etc. Many of the driveway alarm system receivers can receive and distinguish signals from up to 4 driveway sensors that are the same or of different types. The driveway receivers are referred to as a 4-zone or 4-channel receiver. A unique chime doorbell tone can be programmed for each wireless sensor on each channel.
